According to a new lawsuit, Smuggler, Inc., a Los Angeles-based production company, says Sony’s Epic Records owes them $187,255 for the production of Travis Scott’s music video, “Wake Up.” The video released on July 25, 2019, has had over “40 million views and is still publicly viewable,” the court papers claim.
Smuggler’s lawyer argues that Epic misled them and hid that it didn’t have the budget to pay the full contract amount, “to induce Smuggler to produce and deliver the finished video, which Smuggler did,” the suit claims. Additionally, Smuggler claims Epic is blacklisting them within the industry.
“Epic’s wrongful attempt to pressure Smuggler into walking away from its contractual rights … is outrageous,” the suit alleges.
