Ben Affleck

The producers of the upcoming Ben Affleck film “Hypnotic,” directed by Roberto Rodriguez, need it’s insurance company to extend their policy to cover the delays due to the pandemic. The insurance company, Chubb National, has refused to extend any policies and will not sell new plans that cover COVID. Therefore, the producers have filed a lawsuit against Chubb for fraud and contract breach, amongst others. They contend that without COVID-19 coverage, the producers “likely would not be able to proceed with the production.”

ba-2-293817068-1599825625611-1-1024x765 The insurance policy the producers purchased from Chubb National is worth $58 million to cover Affleck or Rodriguez’s untimely illness or death during production. The lawsuit is among the first, if not the first, to test whether film insurers will be forced to accommodate delays caused by COVID-19. The suit claims that Chubb is violating “established industry customs and practices” by not allowing the production to “extend as needed” their policy.
