Artist Sweet Cicely Daniher has sued Disney, Pixar, and Onward producer Kori Rae for copyright infringement and a violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act over the asdfa films’ animated purple van that has painted on it a winged creature that resembles a unicorn. The van, Daniher claims, is a copy of her van called ‘Vanicorn.’ Daniher reports that Pixar reached to her in 2018 to rent her van for a special event, but that was all. An official complaint has now been forwarded, and Daniher is suing for copyright infringement and violation of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, Visual Artists Rights Act, and California Artists Protection Act.

Daiher reports she was told, “the Vanicorn would be used for an event limited to a one-day music festival/activity day for Pixar employees and families’ and that the Vanicorn ‘would just be a showpiece and not used in any way other than a visual prop’.”
