This week in Digital news- looks like digital giant Amazon is coming off your computer screens and popping up as your neighborhood grocer! This off screen idea is not a new concept for Amazon. Just last year, the company launched its physical bookshop, Amazon Books, mirroring the same idea. Now the digital company is diving in with Amazon Go and further expanding their business model.

The concept of Amazon Go is that your purchases are automatically billed and it cuts out the use of check out clerks and lengthy lines. These corner stores allow customers to pick up groceries and just walk out! The cost of the purchases is billed directly to users Amazon Prime account and all of the transactions are determined using sensors that will track customers as they go about in the store and digitally note all the items they select.

Employees of Amazon can already shop in the first location in Seattle and the digital grocer will be open to the public early next year. Sources say that Amazon may potentially open up 2,000 stores around the US. The first store is currently 1,800 sq ft and carries staple foods. Since the online vendor has been offering fresh services in the US since 2007, the expansion of grocery delivery services has been increasing drastically. In June Amazon launched this service for the first time in London giving prime members across the pond additional services with just $8.50 charge a month. This has boosted Amazon sales from an annual of $107bn last year to more than double with net income of $596m.

With the increase of innovative expansion, who knows what will be next in the years to come for Amazon? Will they be expanding into more traditional forms of media? Movie theaters? Concert venues? Who knows!
