Marcey Hall, Esq. – Associate Attorney
Marcey V. Hall, Esq. is a graduate of the University of Florida Levin College of Law, and has been an attorney for 10 years. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English from Florida Atlantic University. Marcey was admitted to the Florida Bar in 2005 and began her career as a prosecutor for the Broward County Florida State Attorney’s Office. As a prosecutor, Marcey gained extensive litigation experience and made daily court appearances. She drafted and argued legal motions, performed and defended depositions, interviewed witnesses, performed legal research and trial preparation, participated in plea negotiations, and tried misdemeanor, juvenile, and felony cases. Marcey’s philosophy as a prosecutor was “zealous, but fair with a flare.” After 3 ½ years she completed her tenure as a prosecutor and was awarded a plaque for her successful and dedicated tenure by the Broward County State Attorney, Michael J. Satz. At that time, she began the next phase of her career.
In 2008, returning to her roots in academia, Marcey accepted a position as an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at Miami Dade College. Marcey was eager to combine her litigation and criminal law skills with her passion for working with college level students. During her tenure at Miami Dade College, Marcey taught courses in criminal, civil, and constitutional law. However, Marcey became known for, among other things, her mock trials. Tapping into her passion for writing, she wrote mock trial fact patterns and transformed these into mini-productions where her students acted as attorneys and witnesses, while Marcey acted as the Judge. The students began to take Marcey’s courses in anticipation of these mock trials, and Marcey enjoyed the opportunity to creatively teach her students trial practice. Ultimately, the community was welcomed and took the opportunity to come and view the mock trial sessions at the college. To the delight of all, the trials became increasingly popular with the community especially high school magnet law students. These mock trial productions would later serve as Marcey’s inspiration for writing a court room “dramality” series which she is currently shopping in Hollywood, CA. Nearing the end of her successful tenure at Miami Dade College, Marcey felt a need to expand her career beyond criminal law, and tap into her creative passion—writing. In 2012, Marcey self published her first book, Your Law School Guide: Making it Through the Application Process.
In furtherance of her desire to support her creative goals, Marcey saw it fit to expand her expertise into the area of Entertainment Law. She enrolled and completed an online copyright LLM course at Southwestern Law School in Los Angeles, CA, began to develop ideas, and write scripts. Creatively, she currently has several teleplay scripts working, a web series script which she desires to direct, and a science fiction screen play.
As she grew weary of and felt rather limited in South Florida, Marcey desired not only a change in career pursuits, but location as well. She became a member of the California bar in October 2010 and in September 2011, relocated to Hollywood, CA. Since she has been in Los Angeles, Marcey has worked on several matters as a Contract attorney, including a legal trademark case. In this current phase of her career, Marcey desires to expand her expertise in Entertainment Law, and become a successful writer and director of her own work. She continues to creatively write and self study as a director. She is both elated and humbled at the opportunity to connect with such an elite firm as The Hollywood Lawyer, and bring her passion, skill, zeal, compassion, and heart to the service of its clients.
