David Yung Ho Kim, Esq. – Principal Attorney
David Yung Ho Kim is an entertainment attorney, actor and musician, based in Los Angeles, and he practices in the areas of film, television, music, new media, licensing and talent representation. He comes from an eclectic background of experiences in the areas of business, entertainment, law, and education. While attending the University of California, Berkeley as a Regents’ & Chancellor’s Scholar, he served as one of twenty elected senators for a campus of 30,000 students and contributed to the campus and community through his positions on various campus and local committees. After completing his thesis on The Korean American Church and Making of Nation-Church-State: 1910-1945, and graduating from Berkeley with cum laude honors, he served as the acting director for a highly successful learning center in Santa Clara, CA, and then moved on to study law at the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law (Yeshiva), the nation’s premiere Jewish institution with one of the top-ranked entertainment and IP programs in the nation.
In addition to his legal education and involvement with the school, David honed his business and legal experience by working at the Webman Group in New York City, a music publishing company and artists’ rights advocacy group, where he reviewed old and new publishing contracts, and verified client Artists’ record label contracts to their audits. After working there, he then moved on to work in the Tax & Bankruptcy Litigation Division in the New York City Law Department, where he worked on property tax valuation research. During his time in New York, David also briefly served as the Executive Assistant to Woo S. Rhee, Senior Vice President of JYP USA, the U.S. branch of JYP Entertainment, a “Big 3” record label in Asia, most known for having created artists like Rain, Wonder Girls and 2PM.
While slowly making his transition from corporate law, David had the experience of working for Lee & Ko, reputably the number two law firm in Korea, in the area of intellectual property and anti-trust law, and working as a research assistant to Professor Robert Brauneis, a world renown scholar in the area of copyright and trademark law.
After moving to Los Angeles, David then continued his legal career by clerking in the Public Integrity Division of the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office, where he worked on cases to crack down corrupt government officials like the City of Bell case involving Robert Rizzo and other suspect city officials, and then, after he left, as a junior litigation associate for two boutique firms in general civil and labor and employment law issues. Following his short stint in the Business and Legal Affairs Division of CJ Entertainment America, where he primarily worked on drafting and reviewing writer agreements, producer agreements, licensing agreements, distribution agreements, and other film, television and new media related agreements, he then served as in-house legal counsel for a talent management and film production company in LA. David now serves as the principal attorney here at The Hollywood Lawyer, primarily practicing in the areas of entertainment and business law, and more specifically, for clients in the film, television, music, digital, technology and small business industries.
When he’s not working, David loves to meditate, do yoga, sing, play the piano, socialize, love and heal everyone. He loves life, truth, freedom and his family: James, Giong, Evan, Jules and Julian.
