Digital Dose Wednesday – Amazon Hungry for Sports?

Happy Wednesday! Many of you may already be a frequent user of Amazon’s Online Grocery Store but it looks like Amazon is attempting to put their finger in another pie!

Recent deliberations spark rumors that Ken Solomon, CEO of Tennis Channel, may bring to fruition another juicy distribution deal that would boost Amazon’s ever-growing library of Prime video entertainment. Although other popular sports leagues such as NBA and MLB have programming and digital rights carted off exclusively for several years, this may be the first indication of a growing trend for on-demand sports subscription digital services.

Amazon’s newly hired James DeLorenzo, former VP and GM of Sports Illustrated Digital, and Charlie Neiman, the former head of sports partnerships and business development of YouTube, further implies Amazon’s attention to sports entertainment.

Since Amazon already provides for personal streaming from popular networks such as Showtime, Starz, NBCUniversal’s Seeso, Warner Bros’. DramaFever and Acorn TV, it is not surprising that they want to satisfy the tastes of sports fans alike!
