Film Wednesdays- So You Didn’t Go To Cannes. Here Is What To Watch For

Hello dear friends. We usually post our film reviews on Fridays but today we couldn’t resist talking about the latest Festival de Cannes. Unfortunately The Hollywood Lawyer was unable to attend but we were happy that many of our friends were able to present their work and enjoy the screenings.

It came as no surprise to us that Xavier Dolan, a Quebecois Director who has won awards at Cannes for the past consecutive years would win the Grand Prix ceremony award with his latest “It’s Only the End of the World.” A story about a doomed and beautiful playwright portrayed by Gaspard Ulliel and supported by a cast of French royalty with the likes of Lea Seydoux, Marion Cotillard, and Vincent Cassel.  “It’s Only the End of the World” is set to be released by September of 2016.

Amongst other notable films that won acclaim at Cannes are “I, Daniel Blake” by Ken Loach, “Graduation” by Christian Mungiu, “Personal Shopper” by Olivier Assayas, “The Salesman” by Asghar Farhadi, and “American Honey” by Andrea Arnold.

Most of these acclaimed films are scheduled for wide distribution in the fall of this year and some are postulated to be integrated into the Criterion collection. Speaking of which, what films are on your list for this year? Let us know on Twitter!
