Film Fridays- New Porn Laws Clean Up Production But Make Staying Local Dirtier

We’ve talked before about changes in film production laws, some that encourage productions to stay local to California and some that are pushing them out. In recent years, laws that affect pornographic films have mostly fallen under the latter- with stricter and stricter guidelines, many local productions have chosen to head out of state. Porn is already required to practice safe sex but now the state Occupational Safety and Health Standards Board is proposing that additional measures be taken to curb the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, including the use of goggles on set by actors. Producers are also to made responsible for having a shower on set and paying for medical visits and STD treatments. While these measures are created with the actors (and public) health and well-being in mind, not everyone is enthusiastic with the stricter (and more costly) laws. “These are regulations designed for medical settings, and are unworkable on an adult film set – or even a Hollywood film set,” said the Free Speech Coalition in a statement. The Coalition will continue to fight the implementation of the measures, though it’s unclear what it will mean for the California Porn industry if the new rules pass- possibly, even more of the production will choose to leave the state, letting other states “clean up” the profits.
